A friend of mine has recently joined the ISB, Hyderabad, spending a good 18lacs as tution & hostel fees (living costs extra!). While chatting to him about the course and of course the pay package he can expect, he mentioned that a lot of students are turning away plum international postings. I asked the reason for this and there were a few, all cliche -
1. India Rising
2. To be an entrepreneur
3. Join some NGO
***
All very very familiar right? I perfectly understand (though do not agree sometimes) to the first two. The last one is what completely baffles me. In fact, sometimes, makes me frown. Does it take an MBA to really understand your true calling? Why not spend an year in TISS instead and leave the MBA seats to someone who will make a difference to the industry? I do not think having an MBA working for an NGO makes it any easy to gather funds. I'm also not convinced that an MBA liberates your mind to such an extent that you are willing to forego all comforts. So why?????
