Mithya - The truth is a big lie after all.....

Now I don't mean to turn a film "critic" cause I want to raise my hands and clap for Rajat Kapoor & Ranvir Shorey to have blessed us with a brilliant lie. Errr..A Brilliant Bollywood movie. Me saying it is Bollywood fare is almost a lie cause the script is brilliant and Ranvir Shorey goes on to beat the inherent strength of the script by some extremely convincing play. Completely unlike Bollywood right? So after Vinay Pathak's "Bheja Fry", here is Ranvir proving that he too is one seasoned actor.

It sure isn't a comedy. Parts are funny but thats about it. The underlying tale is all dark and subtle about how life can sometimes make you believe that lies are the ultimate truth. Sounds gibberish and lofty? One has to see the climax to believe what i want to express. But fail to. In short, it is the life of a man who dreams to live big. Fate has it that he does get to "act" like he is big. Fate has it that he loses touch with reality and thinks the "act" is "reality". Fate has it that he is forced to get back to the real "reality" but he refuses to accept that the "act" is after all an "act". In the process, he loves the one who he is supposed to "act" to be loving but lets go of the one whom he "truly" loves. And fate has it that he realizes the truth only at his last breath. The final blow of how cruel fate is comes when he is taken back to the "act" to be laid to rest when he would have now wanted to be left in "reality".

Sounds crap? I told you i'm no writer. And one can only feel VK's helplessness as his entire life runs by him in that last moment when he calls out -- "Sonia", his true love. If there was ever a movie that has hit me so hard during the climax, it was this. That how life can play lies on you to make you believe it is all true. You realize the truth is a big lie after all but then it is too late.....

A few though will hate the dark, brooding hues on the screen. Almost as if the script wasn't dark enough and you had to avoid any sun. My wife did come back all mad and angry at watching something so "boring and senseless". Won't shatter any BO records but who cares. It will get its due one way or the other.

This definitely isn't everyones cuppa. But is sure was just right for me! So can we have an Oscar for this one please? We do have a worthy contender this year and i hope the so called "parallel cinema" continues churning out such brilliant fare that tests the boundaries of what most desi film makers term "hatke hai".

Surprised on how your take on the movie is so close to mine - I wouldnt have put it as nicely as you did ofcourse.

I saw the movie and really loved it too. I must admit Im quite the Ranvir fan - so much so Im going to name my kid Ranvir - even if its a girl :)
(just to confirm Im not having any right now)
Most of my friends were quite surprised by my take on the movie as well -they thought the "reviews" werent so great...who cares abt mainstream reviews. Critics like you are what parallel cinema need.
BTW, hope you will critique my movie well - Im going to take film making classes this year.

Hope everything else is fine - tc
